Beautiful barramundi

The fish everyone is talking about, Lates calcarifer, locally known as the barramundi.

It’s creating a new generation of sportsman. Environmentally  conscious fishermen and fisherwomen who catch and release for the pure thrill.

Everyone who has encountered big trophy barra has been blown away with the spectacular leaps and tail walking these fish are so famous for. Explosive (or more correctly implosive) strikes that can almost be measured on the Richter scale.
Their predatory aggression toward anything that swims makes them such an easy target with artificial baits. This is the ultimate sports fish with a reputation for a dirty fight.

Catching barra is almost a trade with many tried and tested methods that work so well for some and not for others. So many variables come into play with barra between seasons, tides, weather and habitat. They can be on fire one minute and cold as ice the next. It can take years of trial and error to become a self-taught master of the trade.

NT BARRA SCHOOL is your ticket to mastering the Lates calcarifer with introductory, intermediate and advanced courses (1, 2, and 3 day courses). Your boat, Your tackle, Our skills.
