Locations
The BARRA SCHOOL operates from two locations…
- Daly River 2 hours south west of Darwin from March - June
- McArthur River, King Ash Bay, 30 mins from Borroloola in the Gulf of Carpenteria from October - November.
Training takes place in an air-conditioned marquee. Sessions consist of three hours of theoretical followed six hours of practical, which include both theory tests and prac tests. All participants will be assisted to obtain a satisfactory pass.
Practical training is carried out in students’ own boats. The group teacher will be leading in one of the BARRA SCHOOL boats. Communication will be maintained by hand held two-way radios supplied at the start of the course. Each participant will receive a copy of the most current maps, explaining the various obstacles in the waterway.
Participants will use all of their own tackle except for the two lures supplied by the school. Top-of-the-range equipment can be hired from the school including, lures, hooks, leader, braided line, G-Loomis rods and Shimano Cronarch reels.
Coffee, tea, soft drink and biscuits will be provided during theoretical training in the morning. Smoko, lunch and drinks are to be supplied by each individual.
